This Simple Search screen combines all of the primary fields into one convenient search: search terms entered are matched against the author, title, and keyword fields of the database.
The Boolean operators (OR, AND and NOT) are not supported for Simple Search. All terms are searched separately against all fields. Use of these operators might cause a syntax error or skew search results. To leverage Boolean searching, please use the Advanced Search.
For the Simple Search, all search terms are checked against all the fields listed in the description. If all the terms appear in any of the fields, it will return a result.
Quotation marks are used to search for entire phrases. If quotation marks are not used, the engine will search on each individual term. The use of quotation marks can produce more accurate and quicker search results.
A word/phrase expander (*) is supported. The word/phrase expander (*) may be used at the end of a word, part of a word or phrase to retrieve all results beginning with the portion typed. It must be used immediately following the search request, with no spaces preceding it.
Example: "Unrelated Bus*" will return all records containing "Unrelated Business," "Unrelated Business Income Tax," "Unrelated Business Taxable Income," etc.
A beginning and ending year may be chosen. The results will include the beginning and ending year. Thus, choosing "2011" as an beginning year and "2014" as an ending year will yield citations from 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.
Here one can specify if all authors appear in the citation (instead of an "et al." that omits all but the first author when there are more than two authors of a work); whether a "live link" to the material is displayed and able to be clicked through; and the output should be "printer friendly" so that headers are removed and a full paragraph break between citations is displayed.
